The best pool service software, by the criteria that matter

The best pool service software depends on what you weight: field app speed, your route and dispatch model, proof and service history, pricing transparency, and onboarding support. Score any tool on those five, and the right pick for your company gets clear fast. Below we define each criterion and score PoolPuma and the main competitors honestly.

Full disclosure: PoolPuma publishes this guide, so we have a stake in it. We score ourselves against the same criteria as everyone else and name where other tools are stronger, using public information.

The criteria

Five things that decide the right tool

1. Field app speed and offline use

Your technicians live in the app all day. Logging a visit, readings, and photos should be fast, and ideally work where cell service is weak. Ask to see a tech complete a real stop before you buy.

2. Route and dispatch model

Good software turns recurring routes into a clear day of work without re-planning every morning. Look for reusable weekly routes and a clean way to dispatch, reassign, or skip a stop for one day without breaking the recurring plan.

3. Proof and service history

Photo proof, captured time and location, and chemistry history that stays with each body of water protect you when a technician leaves or a customer disputes a visit. History tied to the pool, not the person, is what survives turnover.

4. Pricing transparency

Are prices published, and does your bill grow every time you add a pool? A flat plan and a clear value metric make budgeting predictable. Per-pool or per-location fees can add up fast as you grow.

5. Support and onboarding

Getting your customers, pools, and routes into the software is the hard part. Real onboarding help and migration from a spreadsheet matter more than a long feature list you never finish setting up.

How they score

PoolPuma and the main competitors, judged honestly

PoolPuma

A route-first platform built around the pool service day, with flat published pricing.

Strengths. Weekly route sheets that become daily runs, an enforced photo-proof policy, per-body chemistry and dosing history that survives turnover, flat pricing from $39 to $199 a month by serviced location, and a 1:1 onboarding call plus free CSV or Excel migration on every plan.

Watch for. PoolPuma keeps billing detail per visit and work order, but does not send invoices or take customer payments yet, and it is a newer product still building a public review base.

Skimmer

The established category leader with the deepest public review base.

Strengths. A 4.9 out of 5 rating from 230 Capterra reviews, in-app invoicing with real-time QuickBooks Online sync, AutoPay, and Sunbit consumer financing, a LaMotte meter integration, documented offline route management, and a large content and resource library.

Watch for. Its Scaling Up plan adds $2 per serviced location on top of a $98 a month base, the AI Phone feature is a separate $99 a month add-on, photos are capped per plan (5 per visit on Getting Started), and live phone support starts on Scaling Up.

Pool Brain

A pool-specific tool that leans into chemistry and hardware integrations.

Strengths. Multi-body-of-water support, chemical reading and dosing history, quotes-to-jobs-to-invoices automation, integrations with LaMotte Spin Touch, WaterGuru, Orenda, and Pentair, and advertised free setup.

Watch for. Its pricing page advertises all features with free setup but our research did not record a specific price, and it is a small site, so confirm current details directly.

Pool Office Manager

A mature office platform positioned on seasonal service and repair.

Strengths. Inventory management, built-in invoicing, seasonal open-and-close positioning, a free pool chemical calculator, published case studies, and a free trial. It appears first in some AI-generated Skimmer-alternative shortlists.

Watch for. Its per-body proof and chemistry history were not detailed in our research, and a specific price was not recorded, so ask for both in a demo.

Jobber

A broad field service platform used across many trades, with a pool page.

Strengths. Built-in quoting, invoicing, and client payments, a large Academy content library and free tools, and a well-established brand.

Watch for. It is not built around pool chemistry: our research does not show per-body-of-water readings or dosing history, and its pricing is not recorded in our verified data.

Questions

Choosing pool service software, answered

What is the best pool service software?

There is no single best for everyone. Skimmer is the established leader by public reviews. PoolPuma is the flat-priced, route-first option with strict visit proof. Pool Brain leads on chemistry integrations, Pool Office Manager on inventory and invoicing, and Jobber on general field service with payments. Match the tool to the criteria you weight most.

What should I look for in pool service software?

Weigh five things: field app speed and offline use, a route and dispatch model that matches how your crew drives, proof and service history tied to each body of water, transparent pricing that does not balloon per pool, and real onboarding and migration support.

Is PoolPuma the best pool service software?

PoolPuma is a strong fit if you want a route-first workflow, per-body chemistry with enforced photo proof, and flat pricing from $39 to $199 a month by serviced location. It is not the best fit if you need in-app invoicing, customer payments, or inventory today, since PoolPuma does not offer those yet.

How much does pool service software cost?

PoolPuma is a flat $39 to $199 a month by serviced-location tier. Skimmer starts at $49 a month for up to 49 pools, then moves to a $98 a month base plus $2 per serviced location. Pool Brain, Pool Office Manager, and Jobber publish their own pricing, which our verified research did not record, so check each vendor's site.
